Having got the route, accommodation and bike sorted I can now concentrate on my kit that I shall be taking with me.
Weight including the bike, bags and kit comes to approx 21 kilos, but I need to add at least 2 ltrs of water and PowerBar energy foods and Pulsin Cereal Bars to this, and obviously my fat arse!
I will be carrying everything in, two water proof, high visibility Panniers and a Rack Pack on the rear and a Handlebar Bag and Small Bar Bag
I will start with what on the bike first, then I’ll go through all the bags
On the handlebars, I will be carrying, my Garmin for constant directions, my GoPro for on the go filming, and my handlebar bag which will have a clear map case on the top for my notes for each day, in the bag will be my camera, maps, notes, sun cream and snacks, and spare go pro battery and charging leads
I am carrying USB rechargeable front and rear lights which will be on at all times during the ride, as well as a BrightSide Helmet light which I will use in poor visibility, or if I’m out later than planned, I also have an Endura high viability helmet rain cover with a rear light to.
My Bar Bag will carry my powerbank to power my Garmin as the battery drains fast while using live mapping, also my phone and inhailer as well as a few painkillers
On the bike I will be carrying two PowerBar water bottles in my Vaaru bottle cages, one will have water the other will have electrolytes in, I will top these up at each stop.
At the rear I have the panniers which will be carrying all the gear, each pannier weighing approximately 4.5 k
The Rack Pack will have items in that I will need access to through out the day, such as waterproofs, repair kit which I have fitted into a water bottle, so this gives me a spare if need be , spare one litre of water, warm clothing, first aid and food supplies from Pulsin and PowerBar
I will also be carrying a solar powered charger with powerbank to keep my my electronic items charged at each stop, it also has a decent size carry case with it so perfect for all my leads and cables
My choice of helmet was to go light and well vented, but strong and also to match the colour of my Vaaru Bike, and the shoes are perfect for touring as they are spd and great for walking in too
I will also be packing everything into waterproof compression sacks, this makes life easier for finding stuff and for keeping items together, as well as guaranteeing my clothes are kept dry!
